Gasket Maker Adhesives
Gasket maker adhesives are sealing compounds with permanent elasticity that cure in the presence of air without any shrinkage. They bond well to steel, aluminum, glass, ceramics, and many other materials. These adhesives have excellent resistance to heat, oil, grease, UV rays, and pressure while maintaining their elastic properties permanently.
Applications
- Water pumps and motors
- Gearboxes and axles
- Oil pumps
- Due to their moderate strength, these adhesives are not recommended for use as a gasket for cylinder heads or exhausts.
- This adhesive has a high viscosity, so it is not recommended for filling gaps or voids larger than 25 millimeters in diameter.
- It is not recommended to use this product in environments with pure oxygen or in systems rich in oxygen, and it should not be used as a sealant in areas with strong oxidizers like chlorine.
- This adhesive is not suitable for use on plastic pipes or surfaces made of plastic and thermoplastics.
RTV silicone is not the same as gasket maker adhesive; RTV silicones are a type of silicone sealant that cures at room temperature (room temperature vulcanizing). These silicones have a wide range of viscosities and consist of both organic and inorganic compounds, making them one of the most stable adhesive products on the market. RTV adhesives and sealants are resistant to high temperatures and are much more flexible compared to other industrial adhesives.
Most RTV adhesives fall under the category of single-component adhesives. All gasket makers cure at room temperature, thus they are considered part of the RTV family; however, RTV includes a wide range of adhesives and does not necessarily mean gasket makers.
